After a one-year delay caused by the Coronavirus pandemic, the summer of 2021 saw a Large European football tournament get underway, staged in 12 cities across Europe.
Roadphone NRB were on-hand to provide over 5000 Motorola DP4801e handsets across the tournament. At each venue, 2 engineers were deployed along with around 400 radios, audio accessories and control room solutions. A Motorola Capacity Max repeater system was installed at each stadium, with each radio linked together over IP to allow for radio calls to flow seamlessly between venues – despite some being over 4000km apart!
The Central co-ordination centre was also connected to the radio network, enabling officials to talk to teams on the ground at each venue, and WAVE PTX was utilised to connect remote workers via Europe’s 4G/LTE network. Our team of engineers at each stadium also provided an asset tracking service using a cloud-based version of Checkpoint Charlie®, as well as providing first-line technical support.
“In London, our project management team were overseeing the Europe-wide deployment, providing staff support, data analytics, remote radio reprogramming and monitoring the health of the radio network, providing advanced technical support where needed. ”
The radio system deployment is thought to be the largest of its kind in Europe, and sets the ‘gold standard’ for radio communications at future international sporting events.
